ABOUT JANET
I’ve been interested in adult learning and development for decades. I enjoy helping people find the words to articulate their experiences, skills, insights, and aspirations. I ask questions that open doors to new perspectives and opportunities. And I support clients in harnessing their curiosity and energy, so they can make important life changes and get things done. Sometimes, I make people laugh.
Someone once described me as having my “head in the clouds and feet firmly on the ground." That’s because my strengths span the emotional, creative, and practical realms.
I truly look forward to hearing your story. Here’s a piece of mine.
-
I started out as an adult educator, got a doctorate in Adult Learning and Development (in my 50’s), and most recently, added training to become a Certified Psychosynthesis Life Coach and Group Peer Support facilitator. I’ve taught, researched, and supported people going through some of the most challenging life transitions. No matter what job I’ve had, my purpose has remained the same: to support and inspire personal expression and human potential, to reduce isolation, to build community, celebrate beauty, and to make change.

I bring to coaching all I have learned in life, work, and school. I am comfortable with a wide variety of people and have worked with non-profits, for-profits, and foundations. I’ve been a teacher, a program coordinator, a director, a solopreneur.
As a coach, I use all of my experience, knowledge, skills, and resources to help people grow, create, and make things happen. I know how to listen and help people listen to themselves. One of my taglines is: Slow down. And get moving!
Some of the projects I’ve worked on include:
guiding dozens of people (including seniors and their adult children) through the process of downsizing and moving;
coaching people on their personal, professional, and academic writing (including helping aspiring students write successful college and graduate school application essays);
producing podcasts, and audio and digital stories;
serving as a sounding board and thought partner for college faculty designing/improving courses;
assisting a friend with a terminal illness to self-publish her journal, raise money for an organization she loved, and pull off a wildly successful book launch and celebration of life she attended, herself;
project-managing the complete rehab of a house; and
designing this website (with a little help!).
Professionally, I’ve been:
a scholar/researcher, an adult student, an instructor, a consultant, and a program designer/manager in community and higher education settings;
a trainer, facilitator, and grant-writer;
an educator and mentor of international students, immigrants, and refugees - and I’ve lived in Mexico and France as an international student, myself.
-
I’m happiest when I’m listening, learning, communicating, creating, growing - and sharing the honest experience of it all with others. I understand how absolutely beautiful and incredibly painful life can be, and I’ve thought a lot about the psyche - especially my own! What I offer my clients is my experience and insights, my understanding and creative thinking, and just enough structure and humor to help them loosen up, open up, and take action.
